- Author and forensic scientist Chandra Sekharan

(July 17, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) Do you know the difference between a suicide bomber and a human bomb? Did you also know that former President Dr Abdul Kalam had also helped in the investigation of the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case?

About 17 years after Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, author and forensic scientist Chandra Sekharan has finally been able to tell it all.

Hardly 24 hours after the blast that killed former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Chandra Sekharan came up first with the human bomb theory.

As he was one of the 179 coded witnesses under TADA, there was a gag order on revealing any information to the outside world.

The Untold Story Of The Rajiv Gandhi Assassination dwells on how crucial these 10 frames clicked three feet away from the blast and were later retrieved from the scene of the blast.

The book tells how he sought the help of former President Dr Abdul Kalam in enhancing the images at the remote sensing unit of DRDO, how the Tamil Nadu Forensic Science Dept, which he headed, was brought under the State Police, the alleged attempts to prevent him from interacting with the CBI, the and also the blame game between the CBI, RAW and IB.

''This book is the outburst of the restless mind of a scientist,'' said P Chandra Sekharan. The author also makes an interesting distinction between a suicide bomber and a human bomb.

''People can carry the bomb and get killed in the process. A human bomb is different because here the human body forms part of the bomb. The bones act like missiles and travel with the same speed as the explosive material,'' said P Chandra Sekharan.

A few years ago, a retired CBI officer Raghotaman had brought out a video on the blast. And this 270-page book that has just hit the stands is another chilling account of the assassination by an important investigator.
