Do not playing with innocent people – TNA Leader

(August 26, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) “Due to the actions of the Sri Lankan armed forces, the displaced people are continuously sheltering under trees, without basic requirements in Vanni. Government is transporting food to the displaced people, the good provided by the World Food Centre and informing that the displaced people’s requirements are fulfilled. Basically, the food send by this centre is not sufficient, and as the pathetic situation of the displaced people have increased, we have clearly and briefly informed to the Indian High Commissioner and also to the International Society and other diplomats. A decision would be taken soon” R.Sampanthan, Tamil National Alliance Parliamentary group leader stated yesterday.

Displaced people are continuously sheltering under trees, without basic requirements. This was confirmed by the International Aid organizations assisting the displaced people, but government is stating that it is a false rumor, which R.Sambanthan questioned.

He further stated that, he approached the Sri Lanka representative of the United Nations on the welfare of the displaced people. In Mannar, Vavuniya, Kilinochchi and Mullaitheevu districts more than million people are displaced and it is so pathetic that such people have displaced more than once.

On the initial stages these displaced people due to non availability of basic facility were transferred to another place, of which it compelled them to get shelter under trees with their families. This was according to the information stated by the international organizations.

Even though the government states that it is providing food and medicines to the displaced people, it has not done so, that is a truth. Therefore we have no trust in the government, and they have no interest towards them. Therefore we, for our people are requesting the non-government organizations to provide food, medicine, water, milk food for children, which they have consented.

Meanwhile, government has controlled the non-government organization’s assistance to the people, and also placed restrictions on the essential items which are for distribution to the displaced victims.

It is the responsibility of the government to safe guard their lives and provide their basic requirements, feeling that they are also our people. Government is transporting food to the displaced people, the good provided by the World Food Centre, and informing that the displaced people’s requirements are fulfilled.

Basically, the food send by this centre is not sufficient, and as the pathetic situation of the displaced people have increased, we have clearly and briefly informed to the Indian High Commissioner and also the International Society and other diplomats. A decision would be taken soon, R.Sampanthan stated .
