The Govt. conceals all its errors through its hobby horse the war- Tissa Attanayake




(December 4, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Speaking today (4th Dec) at a press conference organized by the Defense Watch UNP general secretary Mr. Tissa Attanayake exposed many malpractices that the govt. is indulged in through its hobby horse the war.

Speaking on the govt. mechanism “Api Wenuwen Api” which was initiated to provide free shelter to military families, the parliamentarian alleged that there is no transparency in this housing scheme and that the government was utilizing the money it had collected from people according to it’s whims and fancies thus creating serious questions on the credibility of this whole project, continuing on this subject Mr. Attanayake charged that the government has been selling houses constructed under this project to a cost of 800,000 for military families under a loan scheme in a highly corrupt nature.

Mr. Attanayake then focused on the compensation granted to military families. The compensation of Rs.100, 000 which was fixed in 1977/78 has not been updated nor increased in keeping with the present high risk and cost of living he asserted. Speaking further Mr. Attanayake charged that when soldiers die in the battlefront the government inform their families that the soldiers are missing in action to mainly not pay the compensation It is to this cheap state that the government has fallen into he regretted.


The parliamentarian further continued to stress that the military soldiers that had fled the army are now being imprisoned in the Welikada Jail and that over 2500 soldiers are jailed under this charge, therefore he stated that this move adopted by the government would create serious social questions to the country.
