Sri Lankan Embassy in Berlin Attacked

(February 03, Berlin, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Sri Lankan Embassy in Berlin was attacked by some unknown persons around 9:10 P M on Monday (2.2) night while two senior diplomats were still at the Embassy.

The attackers threw huge stones at the premises and smashed double glass windows of 3 rooms including Ambassador's office room on the first floor.

Within minutes a police squad with 8 Vans were at the crime scene, cordoning off the area and started investigations.

Police believe it could be a provocative act of a LTTE sympathisers with the up and coming Independence Day.

Two Sri Lankan groups are holding demonstrations in Berlin on Wendsday the 4th of Fabruary.

One is taking place in Berlin Mitte against the Sri Lankan Government and the other demonstration is taking place in front of the Sri Lankan Embassy against LTTE terrorism.

With immediate effect the German Police are giving 24hour guard to the Embassy premises and to the residence of the Sri Lankan Ambassador T. B. Maduwegedara.
