Ministers’time at untimely election campaigns-Gayantha Karunatileke

(March 18, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) UNP M.P. Gayantha Karunatileke addressing the media at the UNOP media unit today (18 Mar) , said, this Govt. ‘s Ministers who have been elected by the people reposing immense hopes in them to solve the country’s problems are enjoying all the perks and taking substantial salaries out of public funds not to serve the people. As the Govt. is preoccupied only with holding fragmented elections District -wise and Provinces -wise throughout the year and winning elections more by foul rather than fair manner, so are these Ministers engaged all the time in traveling right round the country on election campaigns pumping petrol on people’s funds . No wonder, no work is being done for the benefit of the people or the country , he exclaimed.

The Govt. has not only set a new record by having the largest Cabinet in the World , it is now heading fast to create another new record, as the country which has borrowed most amount of money from all and sundry to do least amount of development for the country. The Govt. which is fully aware of the sufferings and hardships faced by the people due to gigantic burdens imposed by the Govt. via unbearable high taxes , levies, rates, cost of living and inflationary spiral citing the world price hikes as one of the reasons, is now stubbornly refusing to pass the benefits to the people when there is a slump in the prices in the World market . Even after the Supreme Court gave a ruling to reduce the price of fuel commensurate with the price reductions in the World Market the Govt. using all its machinations avoided the order .

It seems that this Rajapakse Govt. is possessed of a morbid mania to wallow in the sufferings of the people , for ,when all countries in the World are trying to cushion the effects of the global economic meltdown , SL is one country run by a Govt. which happily runs ruthlessly over the people prostrating them completely with all the burdens and hardships one can imagine, he asserted.
