Defence.lk – speaks German

(April 18, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The official website of the Ministry of Defence, Public Security, Law and Order of Sri Lanka, www.defence.lk, has launched its German News letter, today (April 18). Visitors to the site can now read reports of the on going humanitarian missions in German and also the latest reports about the country and the war on terror.

Defence.lk “German News Letter" was launched on an initiative made by the Secretary of Defence, Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Defence Ministry believes that they have a legitimate right to inform Germans as well as the citizens of Sri Lankan origin in the German speaking areas of Europe, about issues related to the defence of Sri Lanka.

The English version of the site was started in April 2006, Sinhala version on November 2007 and the Tamil version in September 2008.

Since the beginning the popularity of the site grew quickly. The English version of defence.lk has an average of 10 million hits per day. An independent US Web traffic Company shows in their survey, that presently over 30,000 visitors read defence.lk. per day from Germany - Mainly because of the rapid and accurate reports regarding issues of internal security.

A large number of readers from Germany and Austria have been visiting the defence.lk website and have been requesting for a German version for a long lime, which now has been made possible by the editorial team of defence.lk. The editorial team believes, with the launching of the German News Letter more readers will have the access to accurate information on Sri Lanka Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The editorial team of defence.lk invites writers in German to submit their views and articles to the site.
