Striking busmen back on the roads

(April 3, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian)The striking private bus operators will be back at work today.

According to the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Federation, the strikers will abandon the strike action carried out over the past few days and return to work bringing the road transport services back to normal.

“This decision was arrived at following a meeting held with Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Minister of Road Passenger Transport,” said Stanley Fernando, Chairman of the Federation.

Minister Alagiyawanna said that the strike action had been called off following discussions held with both the National Transport Commission and the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Federation.

“Issues faced by the private operators will be addressed within the next two days,” the minister said.
