Tamil Diaspora: Help the IDPs with the remaining funds meant for LTTE

By Dr. Raju Selva

(May 19, Melbourne, Sri Lanka Guardian) In my letter titled “An Appeal to Tamil Diaspora” I appealed the senior pro LTTE Tamil Diaspora to send their children to NFZ in Mullaithivu to join LTTE’s depleting fighting cadre as Prabhakaran needed numbers to face the front line operation for them to escape. However, that need doesn’t arise any more as the war is over, LTTE terrorist organization is defeated ,its leaders including Velupillai Prabhakaran are dead and gone and the misery of the Tamils living in Sri Lanka is almost over. The anti-LTTE Tamil Diaspora would have had a sigh of relief after a long spell.

Yet the Tamil Diaspora can now help their brothers and sisters in Sri Lanka with the millions of dollars/pounds collected for LTTE war chest. LTTE doesn’t need any more arms but the ordinary Tamils need bread & butter, shelter, education and health. They don’t care about any Eelam as only the Tamil politicians wanted it. As a gesture of goodwill for all the ill will done by the pr0-LTTE Tamil Diaspora over the years by financially supporting LTTE to kill our own brothers and sisters (leave out the Sinhalese killed by his killing machine), the Tamil Diaspora should spend those millions of dollars/ pounds in hand collected willingly and unwillingly for the upliftment of the IDPs and the Tamils in poverty. If this is done, God will pardon you.

The Government alone cannot handle this crisis and needs assistance in whatever capacity from Sri Lankans within and outside Sri Lanka. So I beg the pro-LTTE Tamil Diaspora who is in charge of millions (instead of using them to enhance their lavish life styles) of dollars to help the upliftment of our own brothers and sisters by building schools, libraries, hospitals etc. Of course, the Tamil Diaspora may need to retain some funds to look after the pro-LTTE British Parliamentarians, US Congressmen, other Politicians and VIPS from Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Australia, Germany and France, reporters fro BBC and other and other international print and electronic media, so called international humanitarian organizations so that they can continue with the momentum albeit LTTE is no more in existence.

Dr. Raju

I couldnt have said it any better. Now is a time to put all those differences aside and come up united to help the governmetn who is doing atremendous job at alleviating the miseries of the IDPs which were brought about because of the LTTE regime. Its time for pro-LTTE tamil diaspora to stop talking and show some compassion towards their mothers fathers brothers and sisters who are in dire need of medical assitance.

The Tamil diaspora has lebeled the innocent Tamils 'traitors' and are not giving the way they gave to support the war. I hope this changes: The follwong article is writtenby a group of Tamil people in Toronto:

Press statement from the Tamils for Human Dignity (Canada) is follows:

Extend the humanitarian hands to those who have escaped:

http://www.srilankaguardian.org/2009/04/hostages-must-be-released-immediately.html

"....LTTE never recognized the dignity of human life. The group’s past record of politics is based on the death and destruction of civilian lives. Even at this stage at the verge of their defeat, LTTE is trying to gain political mileage over dead bodies of civilians. The government of Sri-Lanka should understand LTTE's sinister motives and give highest priority to the safe evacuation of civilians. We ask the Government of Sri-Lanka to accept any genuine assistance from the international community to safely evacuative trapped civilians from the No-Fire Zone.

Some pro LTTE Canadian Tamil organizations are openly labeling the Tamil civilians who escaped from the war zone as ‘traitors’ and calling against any help to those traumatized Tamil civilians, just because they escaped from the LTTE control. This statement, coming from those who took to the streets in Ottawa and Toronto, clearly shows that the ulterior motives of the protest rallies and marches in the Canadian soil are to safeguard the LTTE from defeat not the concern for the Tamil civilians’ lives. The rallies and protest marches are held by LTTE operatives in Canada is the desperate attempt to save the lives of the LTTE leaders who got trapped and on the verge of defeat at the hands of the Sri Lankan armed forces.

We humbly request the humanitarian organizations and individuals to provide as much as help and assistance to fleeing civilians. There are many refugee camps in Vavuniya, Jaffna, Mannar, and Batticaloa districts, and the basic needs are looked after by the authorities. However, many of the civilians are with severe bodily injuries and mental traumas and need much more assistance to get back to their normal lives. We request individuals and humanitarian organizations in Canada to extend the help to these civilians.
