Bashing the West, a new type patriotism: Karu Jayasuriya

(October 15, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Bashing the West has become the new trend in demonstrating patriotism, says UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya.

Issuing a press release, Mr. Jayasuriya has pointed out that Sri Lanka was quick to respond to countries who requested that the internally displaced be released from their camps.

He has said that although the LTTE terrorism had been defeated, a different kind of terror was being imposed on our people and pointed out that Lankans could not turn a blind eye to the plight of 280,000 civilians who were undergoing immense suffering.

Corralling people of two districts in this manner claiming that their innocence had to be proved before their release is an issue that pricked our conscience. He added that the objective of the UNP was to ensure equal treatment to all citizen, and to establish such goals, democracy should be re-established.

Mr. Jayasuriya also observed that as an independent state, we should not bow down to other countries. “However, we ourselves must create a better environment,” he added.

He pointed out that they had supported the war effort against the LTTE and towards the end of the campaign, had to concentrate on other burning issues.

Mr KARU,
You want to say that we should lick shoes of MILIBAND?
The West is furious of our victories and what they do in Afghanistan and Iraq is easily forgotten by this complexed man called Miliband.
Mr KARU wants us to do whatever MILIBAND clique ask us to do?
SHAME!
