Ravi Jayawardena to enter politics

(November 23, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Attorney Ravi Jayawardena will enter politics form the Kaluthara District. The UNP has appointed him as the chief organizer for the Horana II. He is a graduate from the Colombo University Law Faculty and currently practices law.

He has worked at the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Constitutional Affairs, and the Ministry of Industrial Development. He also served as the Commissioner for the Department of Corrections as the youngest official to hold the post.


He has worked tirelessly expose immense levels corruption in government to the public. In order to expose the corruption, Ravi Jayawardena formed “Corruption Watch”, he was later instrumental in bringing to light details of the oil hedging deal. Ravi was also instrumental in bringing a case against the government to enact the 17th Amendment to restore good Governance in the country.

Ravi started his early education in Palvatta and later was educated in Muttugama Ananda College and Ananda College Colombo. In addition to his degree in law, he holds a degree from the University of Leicester in International Relations, which was funded by a scholarship he gained from the Government of UK. Ravi has also attended various seminars and workshops in Good Governance, Peace Building, Development, and Legal Aid from countries such as UK, Austria, Netherlands, Philippines, Cambodia and India.

Ravi has made a name for himself by winning the election as the President of the Student Union of the Law Faculty, with the greatest margin in its history, and during him time he gained a reputation for astute and decisive leadership.

Ravi Jayawardena is the son of former politician Mr. Hema Jayawardena who was a former Village Chairman and District Development Council Member.
