House of General’s supporter in Ambalangoda searched

( December 23 Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) A group of security forces personnel searched the house of a supporter of presidential candidate General Sarath Fonseka in Ambalangoda area in the wee hours of yesterday. The owner of the house, K. M. Chandrasiri said that around 21 persons clad in uniforms scaled his walls and entered the premises around 3am. They had searched the house for about 1 ½ hours.

“About 21 persons of security forces personnel, many of them apparently from the Army and police, scaled the wall and entered the premises around 3 in the morning. I was told to open the door, which I refused. Then they threatened to break in.

“I asked them whether they had a court order to do so. They said that they could carryout a search without obtaining a court order.

“I then called my neighbours and relatives and they came. I opened the door. They carried out the search for over one hour. They even searched the ceiling,” said Chandrasiri, who added that he was a person who engaged in politics in the most harmless manner.

Police media unit said that the relevant police station had received a complaint from K. M. Chandrasiri regarding his safety.
