Where is the Tsunami money gone!

White pigeon money siphoned off!!

(December 29, London, Sri Lanka Guardian) On the fifth anniversary of the Tsunami invasion of Sri Lanka, many questions have been raised in the media about the unaccounted funds of the donor countries for relief work. President Mahendra Percy Rajapakse’s regime is accused of siphoning off large sums of the relief funds that should have reached the victims of the tragedy.

In parallel, considerable efforts were made to collect funds by the diaspora Tamil organisations and leading of them was the UK based White Pigeon headed by the controversial pro-LTTE Dr N Sathiyamoorthy, well known as Dr Moorthy. A doctor in indigenous medicine, he obtained an honorary Freemason title some fifteen years ago with the help of some Tamil political heavy weights. He was the head of the UK based TRO which was closed down by the Charity Commission following a lengthy investigation. During the investigations Dr Moorthy went on to form the White Pigeon Charity and proceeded to carry on the same activities of the TRO.

The White Pigeon collected millions of pounds from the public for Tsunami relief work in Sri Lanka. Funds were collected by public appeals by donations; street bucket collections; special fundraising stage shows; door to door knocking of Tamil houses etc. Several public appeals to disclose the amounts collected and spent were ignored by the White Pigeon. Since the defeat of the LTTE the White Pigeon gone silent and is not engaged in public campaign for funds.

There is widespread discontent within the UK based diaspora community that Dr Moorthy and his associates have siphoned off funds collected for Tsunami work. White Pigeon’s non-disclosure of the Tsunami account publicly is further compounding the aggravation.

According to information, some elements supportive of the White Pigeon Charity are planning to write to the authorities to remove the Freemason title given to Dr Moorthy as they feel the title has been heavily abused by him.
