Why British Double Standards? - The Global Tamil Forum

By Peter Casie Chetty

(March 03, Singapore City, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Global Tamil Form is LTTE's premier terrorist front led by Father S. Emmanual, the Prabhakaran's envoy to Europe.
The world was shocked when the British Foreign Secretary David Milliband showed up at the Global Tamil Forum’s inaugural meeting in London on Wednesday, 24 February.

This was a few days before he was drawn into a debate on if the M16 the spy net work was passively involved in torture of suspected Islamists terrorists. He was annoyed that the Judges had found fault with his colleague Jack Straw on the issue. Well, according to Milliband, The Judges have no right to contradict the law makers. But like former Sri Lankan Chief Justice Neville Samarakoon QC., – these men will say what they have to when they want to, never for once propping up a political party or a disgraced Army officer. Milliband ran into the wrath of the British public when an obnoxious Diplomat Ron Prosor from the rouge state sneered at the suggestion that his Government were involved in using forged passports for a sinister operation on foreign soil.

In practice Britain has stopped short of accusing Israel of involvement in the scandalous assassination, however to signal its displeasure the Foreign Office ignored an Israeli plea to keep the summons secret. (What a pity! ). This could have not been at Milliband’s request but …."Relations were in the freezer before this. They are in the deep freeze now” an official was quoted to have said. Milliband is Jewish and he condoned in a way it had happened fingers crossed behind his back I expect because for him the end justifies the means. We have to remember he “invited” the diplomat to tea and cakes and must have dropped a hint instead of cream into the Arabic coffee.

Now, what does Milliband know about the Sri Lankan conflict. Nothing really and why should that matter if Members of Parliament can get a quid or two for the trouble in exchange for a peerage! That the GTF is a constituted by groups that funded the terrorist effort of the LTTE, that they paid for the improvised explosives that accounted for thousands of civilian lives Tamils as well as Sinhalese is not Important. We all know that segments of the Tamil Community will vote blindly if it was for “their cause and separation.” They have a Christian Priest in their midst, therefore, credible yet as enigmatic as the Holy Trinity. Democracy for these people does not work so what then are they voting in Britain for? British Politicians have run out of arguments to convince voters of their honesty. The balance could now be tilted with the ethnic minority votes and stepped up lobbying is slipping over the top.

Is that easy to understand? No. Then this is as complicated as Britain’s policy on Terrorism. They do not condemn the murder of the Palestinian only the use of forged British Passports. After all most Arabs Milliband will say are terrorists. Why then is Adele Balasingham the God Mother of LTTE female suicide bombers living peacefully in South London and conducting terrorist propaganda?

With all the peerage scandals, the fraudulent tax evasions, second homes purchases with tax payers’ money that have been in the news over these months will there need to be a Royal Commission to find out how much Blair, Brown and the Labour Party has heard dropping into their collection boxes? Or was it the soundless big bills that don’t have to be publicised till someone starts to ask.

Operating through GTF, the LTTE has been using electoral votes to pressure politicians and funds to persuade serving and former nationals in the UK, UK, Canada, and Australia to advance their aims and objectives. Among those recruited to work for the LTTE and GTF are Bruce Fein, an American lawyer, and Bruce Haigh, a former Australian diplomat.

The British anger at Israel would be a positive signal in the right direction if we were not aware of British Foreign Secretary David Miliband investing enormous efforts trying to amend Britain's ethical stand just to appease Tzipi Livni, Ehud Barak and other Israeli leaders. The British Foreign Ministry's reaction could almost be deemed a revelation, were we able to forget that just five weeks before Israel launched its attack against Gaza, David Miliband visited Sderot, an Israeli town on the Gaza border to offer his support. "No country can accept constant bombardment of its citizens", Miliband told the people of Sderot. He then continued "Israel should, above all, seek to protect its own citizens". It was that foolish statement by Britain's Foreign Secretary that made us all complicit in Israel's flattening of Gaza. Bearing these facts in mind, it is rather unlikely that the Israeli Ambassador to Britain was sweating while 'sharing information' with the chief aid to the British Foreign Secretary. Western double standards should stop.
