The soldiers paid the ultimate price for the unitary state of mother Lanka

(THEY DIDN’T DIE IN VAIN TO MAKE THE SHAMELESS POLITICIANS AND TOP BRASS BOGUS HEROES!)

“Lest We Forget”

Written By Day

(May 18, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) When 18th May 2010 dawns on at 0001 hours it will be one year or 1st ‘Death Anniversary’ of Liberation Tigers of Tamil (Dr)Eealam, and at the same time it will be the 1st Happy Anniversary of Victory against the scourge of Tamil terrorism in modern history of Sri Lanka. Why is life always bitter-sweet?

Please be prepared to (BPT) witness the War Victory ‘Cash Cow’ solely surely and singularly belonging the valiant Soldiers (rank and file) is milked daily by the rascal politicos, without a sense of shame, until every drop of milk is drained leaving the udder red and the teats oozing blood to score the gallery points from the gullible common man for them to stay in power for good. This is Sri Lanka where the popularity of a film is measured by the number of songs the main actress sings around a tree and the number of fights a hero on the silver screen fights with a village toughie and wins; Welcome to the Jungle, baby (with apologies to Guns and Roses) !

You may have already noticed that I have left a minute’s difference in time from 17th May 2010 midnight (2400 hours) to 1st minute on 18th May 2010 (0001 hours). It was INTENTIONAL. It is the Minute of Silence observed by Special Operations Forces (SOF), Silent professionals, and is meant for the totally innocent Sinhalese killed in cold blood while worshiping or observing ‘Sil’ at the Sri Mahabodi, Anuradhapura by the marauding band of tigers, for the innocent Tamils who died being drowned in the Indian Ocean while fleeing to India as refugees in an overcrowded dinghy that capsized and overturned and the Tamils in a dinghy killed by accident due to a Sri Lanka Navy waterjet craft firing on, once upon time in the Northern waters, Before Morning Nautical Twilight (BMNT), in a case of mistaken identity or for the innocent Muslim prayers butchered at the Kathankudi mosque by LTTE.

And that way SOF, in pin-drop silence, tell the wider world that the operators feel the pain and suffering of the near and dear ones or loved ones due to their (the innocent’s) untimely and tragic deaths and share their sentiment.

Those deaths could have been prevented if Sri Lankan citizens were selfless, collectively as a nation, (not two peoples and one country-That is POLYANDRY in my book! [(Look it up for the definition or that is homework!)], if Sri Lankan voters did not allow themselves to be used as pawns by the selfish and ambitious politicians or if Tamils did not allow Tamil terrorists (LTTE, TELO, PLOTE, EROS, EPRLF, ENDLF……..) to dictate terms to them for decades.

(The Minute of Silence is MOST definitely NOT for the Tamil civilians who, in house clothing or attire wearing very happily and proudly RED BANDANAS to invoke or incite ‘Tamil martial fervor’ and ‘overawe’ the Sinhalese, underwent mock rifle drill with broomsticks or 4”by4” wooden sticks to simulate killing of members of a lawful military of a nation at the behest of tiger saviors on whose ashes S Sritharan, a Tamil ‘new’ Tiger (TNT) in a ‘Verti’ stood while delivering the ‘maiden speech’ in the Japanese gifted Parliament and talking about his ‘destructed nation’ (the nation of Drealamist) with the bones of his (tiger) relatives kissing ‘his’ feet (A*s)! Why, then, the ‘saner counsel’ of these passionate and emotional Tamil politicians cum tiger fifth column DID NOT PREVAIL when the ‘podiyans’ were blowing up the Pettah Central Bus Stand or the Central Bank killing the totally innocents who had got nothing to do with military and belonged to all ethnicities? Why are they seeking the sympathy from Sinhalese now? (Please expect a reply to his speech in due course!)

Instead of maintaining a very low key and showing much more magnanimity towards the ‘good’ Tamils, all elaborate preparations for vulgar exuberance by the cunning and shameless politicians and politicking top brass are already made rather all indications point towards the shameless efforts of the present political regime with the connivance of some military and police top brass to resorting to steal the ‘thunder’ of the dead, maimed, and living heroes of the nation; in other words, with brazen lies and in broad daylight the vacuous politicos in lily-white national dress are colluding with the vainglorious apparatchiks in white ceremonial uniform to blatantly perform the ‘Dog and Pony Show or the disgraceful ‘Political Vaudeville’ of the 21 Century on 18 may 2010 to pull wool over the eyes of the very gullible citizens or voters in Sri Lanka. It is going to be sordid and done with a view to amass political capital (or to receive a massive mandate by unscrupulous means) in future elections by stealing the credit or at the expense of the poor but valiant (dead, maimed or serving) Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Policemen and Home Guards (CDC), and blowing their (politicos and spurious top brass) own trumpet to tell, maybe in Tamil and in front of teleprompter, each and every one on this Planet Earth “My brothers and I with the help of some media savvy, politicking military officers and senior gazzeted police officers wiped out the LTTE lock, stock and barrel!” then showboat and bask in the false limelight without an iota of shame! In that way the crooked politicians and their crooks are ‘set’ for ‘life’ or a ‘number of generations’!

Silent professionals or operators are ever reminded that their country owes living military personnel (Special Forces operators) NOTHING! Only people who owes anything from their country are the widow and the children (we call them ‘Dependents’ in the military) of KIA (Killed-in-Action), MIA (Missing-in-Action) or Severely WIA (Wounded-in-Action)! In Sri Lanka’s case the Soldier buried with full military honors at the Boralle Cemetery, the Sailors perished in action in the Indian Ocean, the Airmen died in a fireball over IyyakachChi, the Policemen unceremoniously buried after surrendering on political orders in ‘Rufaskulam’ and the Home Guards hacked to death at Nugathenna. Only the family member of those perished in action can ‘demand’ anything from their country or to be felicitated on the highest pedestal by their country, NO ONE ELSE, I mean, NO ONE ELSE!

Please, do not EVER forget this; a Country belongs to her Citizens, not to a Prime minister or a President; a School to Students, not to its Principal; an Army to its Soldiers, not to its Commander, a constabulary or police department to Constables or Policemen, not to an IGP! Therefore Please DO NOT F**k With or F**k Over the Citizens, Students, Policemen or Soldiers!

In gratitude, honor and memory of the military personnel who sacrificed their tomorrow for Sri Lankans today, I rearranged the following poem e-mailed to me by a non-Sinhalese warrior friend of mine, as it is apt to remember on 18 May 2010; the 1st of Death Anniversary of Tamil Terrorism and 1st Anniversary of War Victory of a peace loving nation!

He was getting old and paunchy
And his hair was falling fast,
And he sat around the children,
Telling stories of the past.

Of a war that he once fought in
And the deeds that he had done,
In his exploits with his buddies;
They were heroes, every one.

And 'tho sometimes to his neighbors
His tales became a joke,
All his buddies listened quietly
For they knew whereof he spoke.

But we'll hear his tales no longer,
For ol' Wijedasa has passed away,
And the world's a little poorer
For a Soldier died today.

He won't be mourned by many,
Just his children and his wife.

For he lived an ordinary,
Very quiet sort of life.

He held a job and raised a family,
Going quietly on his way;
And the world won't note his passing,
'Tho a Soldier died today.

When politicians leave this earth,
Their bodies lie in state,
While thousands note their passing,
And proclaim that they were great.

Papers tell of their life stories
From the time that they were young
But the passing of a Soldier
Goes unnoticed, and unsung.

Is the greatest contribution
To the welfare of our land,
Some jerk who breaks his promise
And cons his fellow man?

Or the ordinary fellow
Who in times of war and strife,
Goes off to serve his country
And offers up his life?

The politician's stipend
And the style in which he lives,
Are often disproportionate,
To the service that he gives.

While the ordinary Soldier,
Who offered up his all,
Is paid off with a medal
And perhaps a pension, small.

It's so easy to forget them,
For it is so many times
That our ‘Neros’ and ‘Laliths’ and ‘Kularathnes’,
Went to battle, but we know,

It is not the politicians
With their compromise and ploys,
Who won for us the freedom
That our country now enjoys.

Should you find yourself in danger,
With your enemies at hand,
Would you really want some cop-out,
With his ever waffling stand?

Or would you want a Soldier--
His home, his country, his kin,
Just a common Soldier,
Who would fight until the end.

He was just a common Soldier,
And his ranks are growing thin,
But his presence should remind us
We may need his like again.

For when countries are in conflict,
We find the Soldier's part
Is to clean up all the troubles
That the politicians start.

If we cannot do him honor
While he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage
At the ending of his days.

Perhaps just a simple headline
In the paper that might say:
"OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING,
A SOLDIER DIED TODAY."

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them- Laurence Binyon (1869-1943).”
