Sri Lanka: Finally President Sirisena accepts the Speaker

Sirisena promised the group that he will not prorogue parliament again






( November 16, 2018, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Speaker of Sri Lanka’s Parliament Karu Jayasuriya and the members of the United National Front (UNF) and Tamil National Alliance ( TNA) called on President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat last night (Nov 15).

During the two-hour discussion, President Sirisena accepted the UNF's claim of holding the majority in Parliament while also adding that he will abide by the constitution.

Meanwhile, Clause 01 of the no-confidence motion which stated that the removal of Ranil Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister was unconstitutional has been removed.

The President had also asked the members of the UNF to prove their majority in Parliament tomorrow while also urging them to abide by the standing orders of Parliament.
