I have an ultimate motive for defending Dayan Jayatilleke. I do not think our paths crossed except when he visited the Sunday Leader when I was a member of the staff.
But I have known his father from whom I took the post of Colombo Correspondent for Times of India when he took over as Newsweek columnist.
