Govt. henchmen attacked on our office -UNP

(March 23, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) ‘The Government henchmen have been attached on a UNP party office of Provincial Council election candidate Ruwan Wijewardena, located at Ulhitiwela in Biyagama, yesterday,’ sources of the UNP said.

There were two other party offices of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC). The United National Party (UNP) office was opened yesterday in close proximity to the other party offices to demonstrate the peaceful co-existence of all parties in the area.

All party representatives pledged their support for a peaceful poll expressing their willingness to desist from all acts of violence and intimidation in the conduct of election activities.

Those views were expressed in the morning and the UNP party office was officially opened in the evening.

However, a few hours later, the UNP party office was attacked in the night. Meanwhile, members of the SLMC too claimed that their office too had been damaged.
