Four youths surrendered to HRC in Jaffna

Four youths have surrendered to the Human Rights Commission in Jaffna, yesterday out of fear for their lives. Those youths aged 24, 21, 27 and 24 are from Kachchai South, Kodikamam, Alvai North Meesalai, Manthuvil West Kodikamam and Thavalai Iyatralai.

Fourteen people surrendered to the HRC last week and 13 out of them were from one family. They were produced before Jaffna district court, and the Judge Vignarajah ordered them to be handed over to CAANAAN children home at Irupalai. The Judge also issued an order to the Jaffna district Security Services Commander to provide them with the necessary security.

Meanwhile , the Uyilankulam Road leads to the uncleared area in Mannar and it was not opened for the second day, yesterday.

Due to the continuous and heavy shell attack in the area the ICRC did not return for duty, as there is no guarantee for the security of their members, hence the road is being closed. Normally this road was opened for three days a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. This road will remain closed until the ICRC returns to work
