(December, 22, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian)Leader of Opposition and UNP Ranil Wickremesinghe addressing religious leaders and a professionals at his Cambridge Terrace residence his proposed constitutional reforms have no hidden agendas and it is open to amendments. He welcomed all to make their contributions.

It is very crucial at this point of time for the country ,as the President is by-passing the supreme representative legislative body , the Parliament , taking unilateral self willed decisions on vital matters concerning the country putting its future at stake. He is distributing portfolios and appointing advisors to himself like Santa distributing gifts without considering the economic situation of the country, or its necessity in the interests of the people, he added.

Although it is a widely known truth that the COPE and PAC investigation findings have stated that there are many Govt. politicians and Officials involved in huge frauds and misappropriations draining away people’s precious money, the Govt. without taking action against the offenders is seeking to shield them while crippling the COPE and PAC by every dubious and dastardly method.

This sinister course of action can be blocked if the new proposals are introduced. The entire constitution need not be overhauled, as there are also salutary provisions in the present constitution, he asserted.

Ven .Ittapane Dhammaloka Thero, Ven. Muruttetuwa Ananada Thero and Ven. Thiniyawala Palitha Thero were among those who participated.
