Rajapakse slogan `Rata perata` has hurtled down to `Rata pallamata`- Ranil

(December, 12, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Addressing a mammoth public rally , Jana Rala at Mt Lavinia organized by the National Council yesterday (11Dec), Opposition and UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe emphasized that it is a National Parliament and not a National Govt. is the need of the hour to save the country from the present impasse plunged into by the Rajapakse Govt.

Even during the Second World War, at a time when there was acute food shortage, British rulers showed concern for the people and ensured that they did not starve. But this Rajapakse regime is asking people to eat ‘bajiri’ when people are struggling to survive without even a square meal because of the unbearable hardships and burdens imposed on them by this Govt.

SLFP (M) convener Mangala Samaraweera who also addressed the rally said that the Rajapakse Govt. made 73 key promises in the Mahinda Chintana and had created a record for not honouring a single one. President in his budget 2008, has allocated
Rs. 23,750 million for his 109 Ministers, but has allocated only Rs 9600 million for the entire Sri Lankan population. He has also unconscionably raised his budgetary allocation by 1490 % more than that of last year. !he exclaimed.
