Bona fides of All-Party Parliamentary Group for Tamils

“The APPGT is headed by the controversial Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP. In a determined way he is pushing through the LTTE and its front’s agenda with the British government. His engagement since the group’s formation has been limited to promoting the violent cause of the LTTE.”

(April 03, London, Sri Lanka Guardian) The All Party Parliamentary Group for Tamils (APPGT) is like any other All Party Groups in the British Parliament. It is a registered group and its details are included in the Register of All-Party Groups which is compiled by the Office of the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards.

APPGT came under severe criticism from the section of the Tamil community in the UK for lack of transparency in its dealings and for promoting the cause of the UK proscribed Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam through its front organisation British Tamil Forum.

The object of the APPGT is ‘to promote in Parliament peace with justice and dignity for Tamils in the island of Sri Lanka and advance their development so as to recognise their legitimate socio-political aspirations.’ Lack of farsightedness has invited section of the Tamils opposing or criticising the LTTE being deliberately disengaged by the APPGT.

The APPGT is headed by the controversial Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP. In a determined way he is pushing through the LTTE and its front’s agenda with the British government. His engagement since the group’s formation has been limited to promoting the violent cause of the LTTE.

Attempts to engage with the APPGT by independent Tamil groups is said to have only earned disrespect and indifference from Keith Vaz MP.

The APPGT whilst adopting a much wider concept of promoting in the Parliament peace with Justice and dignity for Tamils fails to realise its role is needed to promote the much needed peace and justice for the Tamils within the Tamil people in Sri Lanka and diaspora from the terror clutches of the LTTE and its fronts.

Web search of the Parliament UK reveals the APPGT’s register of entry which includes 20 parliamentarians as officers:
