Egypt supports to war against terrorism in Sri Lanka

(April 10, Cairo, Sri Lanka Guardian) In the frame of the strong and friendly relations binding Egypt and Sri Lanka and the commitment of the two parties to progress with their bilateral relations in various fields, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt met in Cairo with Mr. Rohitha Bogollagama, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

The two Ministers confirmed during their meeting the importance of developing their bilateral relations, on both the governmental and private sector levels, and taking it to new horizons, building on the strong momentum created by the excellent historical and political relations they maintain. They acknowledged the presence of vast opportunities to enhance trade, investment, cultural, and parliamentary relations, noting the efforts made by the two countries to apply various economic reforms on the national level, reflecting positively on their current economic and financial indicators.

The two sides exchanged views on different regional and international issues of common interest including the situation in the Middle East, peace and security in Asia, United Nations reform and measures for Counter-terrorism. They discussed also the outcome of the Second Ministerial Meeting of the Asia-Middle East Dialogue AMED II which was held in Sharm El-Sheikh on the 5th and 6th of April 2008. Minister Aboul Gheit explained the current developments in the region, including the issues concerning Palestine. Minister Bogollagama sought cooperation of Egypt for Sri Lanka to be enlisted as an observer at the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) and Minister Aboul Gheit welcomed this proposition.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Bogollagama extended an invitation to Minister Aboul Gheit to visit Sri Lanka, on a date to be mutually agreed upon, in order to continue their discussions on various matters of common interest.
