“In the absence of the Rev Jeyanesan in Sri Lanka, we have information that the Rev Annappah Jeyakumar has taken over the leadership of the rebel church, pro tem. This priest has the rrecord of swindling church funds in the past and was fortunate not to have been disrobed.”

(April 26, Muscat, Oman , Sri Lanka Guardian) We have news from Jaffna, Sri Lanka that when the case of the Jaffna Diocese of the Church of South India verses the Church of the American Ceylon Mission was taken up before the District Judge, Jaffna April 24,2008, the principal defendant, the Rev Sellathurai Jeyanesan was still not present. In a a previous hearing an arrest warrant was issued against him.

We understand this is the fifth time he has not attended court in respect of this case. It is generally believed his last appearance was at an exclusive meeting in Toronto recently. Since then he was known to have gone into hiding to avoid arrest. There are also unconfirmed reports he was last seen at Thangachchimadam near Rameshwaram in Tamilnadu, India. We, however checked our sources there and were unable to verify this claim.

In the meantime, according to certain priests of the rebel church, the Church of the American Ceylon Mission, there is considerable worry about their future and they believe he has turned traitor to them. One priest in particular said he has let others to face the fire while he is having a comfortable time visiting his family and relatives in Canada and the USA.

Concerns are also being expressed from certain quarters that there is a concerted attempt to mislead people about what is really happening in Jaffna in respect of the Jaffna Diocese of the Church of South India and Jaffna College. Efforts are seeming to be made to misrepresent some realities and in particular the court proceedings of the church case.

While this is an abuse of ethics, morals and integrity, those trying to mislead the people basing their data on wild gossips with obvious mischievous intentions must take care not to hurt the community with their penchant to promote their own selfish and questionable intentions.

In the absence of the Rev Jeyanesan in Sri Lanka, we have information that the Rev Annappah Jeyakumar has taken over the leadership of the rebel church, pro tem. This priest has the rrecord of swindling church funds in the past and was fortunate not to have been disrobed.
