UN expresses rude shock over deadly crime wave directed against Journalists!

(May 03, New York City, Sri Lanka Guardian) Ban Ki Moon in his message to mark World Press Freedom day, today (3May) underlined that attacks on Press freedom are tantamount to attacks on the very foundation of Democracy , humanity , International law and everything the United Nations stands for.

Just as water is essential for life to grow, so is information to societies. If information is hindered or stunted for political or other reasons, ‘the capacity for us to function’is impeded, he added.

60 years ago, the Universal declaration of human rights, article 19 clearly laid down the right of everyone to freedom of opinion and expression, meaning, the freedom of holding opinions without interference, and their expression through any media regardless of frontiers.

He urged all societies on this momentous day to bring to justice the perpetrators of crimes against Journalists.
