Govt. spent a billion on Deyata Kirula Exhibition, but flood victims were not paid a cent! -Vasudeva accuses


(June 25, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Vasudeva Nanayakkara , the Opposition Leader of the CMC made a scathing accusation against the Govt. for leaving in the lurch, the flood victims. He blamed the Govt. as having no qualms about spending a billion rupees on the Deyata Kirula Exhibition when the people are in dire misery.

Making a shocking disclosure, yesterday (24 Jun), at the monthly session of the CMC, he said, the Govt. has not paid a cent for the flood victims in the City. Not even 20 % of the funds have been allocated to the Assist. Divisional Secretariats by the Ministry. This is indeed a serious criminal lapse, he alleged.

Citing the case of Tsunami relief materials being found in the Mayor’s official residence recently without proper authority , he said , several Councilors have urged the Mayor’s resignation if he cannot manage the Council efficiently and honestly.

Council member Sheriffdeen declared that a UNP administration of the Council will be better.
