Indonesian General sentenced for aiding LTTE

(July 15, New Delhi, Sri Lanka Guardian) Erick Wotulo, 61, a former General in Indonesian Marine Corps General was convicted for smuggling arms and ammunitions to LTTE. He was sentenced to 2 and a half year prison term by U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake.

Others also related to the case were given tough sentences. These include Haji Subandi (71) - 3 years, Varatharasa (36) - 4 fours and 9 months. Osman (55) is expected to be sentenced next month.

Erick was caught after a long probe by FBI on LTTE. It also involved decoy weapons dealers, test firing and other activities. The arms included submachine guns, sniper rifles, night-vision equipment and grenade launchers.

LTTE had transferred over USD 7,00,000 for a downpayment for the arms.
