How can JHU establish a Dharmarajya?

(September 05, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) UNP M.P. Sarathchandra Rajakaruna addressing the Press yesterday (04 Sep), bemoaned that the JHU which came to politics to protect Buddhism and install a ‘Dharma rajaya’ has only succeeded by its policies to put a Buddhist priest in Jail. Referring to a provision in the constitution which was introduced in 1846 by Viscount Torrington banning the free practice of Buddhism in the colonial times said , this was changed later to protect and promote Buddhism.

But now, because the JHU which introduced a meaningless shortsighted constitutional environmental requirement without thought to the rituals and Buddhist practices, a venerated Buddhist monk, Ven. Pannala Pangaloka Thero who went to pay homage at the Dalada Maligawa received a jail sentence from Court, he deeply regretted.
