Massive Protest against LTTE Terrorism in Switzerland

(September 07, Bern, Sri Lanka Guardian) Nearly 1000 Anti LTTE protesters gathered in Bern Switzerland to protest against LTTE activities in Switzerland on the 6th of September.

The Sinhala and Tamil Diaspora against the LTTE activities in Switzerland were joined by Sri Lankan patriots from Italy, France and Germany. The well-attended protest against LTTE terrorism was held on Saturday starting from 13.00 to 17.00 hrs, in front of the parliament in Bern, Switzerland.

Protesters carried Posters and banners decorated with anti-LTTE slogans condemning the Political Killings and Recruitment of Child Soldiers into their ranks and demanding Swiss authorities to ban LTTE activities in Switzerland.

This is one of the biggest anti LTTE protests that has so far taken place in front of the Swiss parliament against the LTTE, its front organizations and its alleged terrorist supportive activities on Swiss soil. Large numbers from the anti-LTTE Tamil Diaspora also took part in this event, amidst LTTE threats.

According to a highly placed international intelligence authority; “The LTTE and its front organizations are collecting 1 million Euros per Month in Switzerland. In addition to this LTTE uses Switzerland as its main financial base in Europe. For e.g. collections from Germany are brought regularly by human couriers to Swiss banks".

Swiss representatives groups of Tamil political parties such as PLOTE, EPRLF, TELO, EPDP, and TULF have joined the demonstration.

Sri Lankan Embassy in Germany holds the official diplomatic accreditation to Switzerland. Ambassador T.B. Maduwegedara has been urging the Swiss government to take strong action against LTTE fundraising and money laundering activities in support of terror activities in Sri Lanka. The Protest was organized by “Sri Lankan Diaspora Switzerland”. Swiss Police provided the security to the protest.
