Govt. cannot save collapsing export and other sectors

(December 13, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Lakshman Kiriella , UNP M.P. told at a news conference yesterday ( 12 Dec) , that the Govt. cannot help the collapsing export sector, Tea, coconut, rubber and cinnamon Industries because of its heavy debt servicing burdens, Jumbo Cabinet ,Ministerial extravagance and white elephant Mihinair on which it is wasting the country’s revenue.

This year between June and November alone the exports revenue has declined by 50 %. The Govt. does not pay heed to those sectors , but goes out of the way to revive MihinAir spending billions of rupees , when it is the project that proved beyond doubt that it is a total fiasco draining away billions of rupees of peoples money leading to its closure. The Govt. has not even taken action to bring the alleged swindlers of MihinAir to book, he regretted.

All other countries are providing bailing out packages pumping in monies to resuscitate their economy which have been affected by the global recession , SL cannot even think of any such thing as the country is bankrupt beyond redemption, he observed.
