Treasury Secretary in consultations over fuel pricing issue

(December 19, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Treasury Secretary Sumith Abeysinghe was in consultations on Friday with the cabinet and government officials on the fuel pricing issue, officials said

Cabinet sources said the court order reducing prices to Rs 100 per litre was received at 9.45 pm on Thursday by the government. A further Cabinet meeting has been scheduled today to discuss the pricing issue.

Earlier UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake said they were going to court on Friday saying the court decision on Wednesday to reduce prices to Rs 100 per litre by that night has not been implemented and hence the consumer suffers.

“We are independent petitioners in the case and it’s not a party issue,” he said adding that their petition had sought to reduce prices to Rs 70/80 per litre whereas it was the Treasury that had suggested a Rs 100 per litre, price revision. “It’s a government formula to reduce the price to Rs 100,” he said.
