Suren Surendiran and Tamil Diaspora.

By K Sridharan, Miami, USA

(February 10, Miami, Sri Lanka Guardian) I have read your recent interviews and speeches with a great interest. You are doing an excellent work at highlighting the pathetic plight of Tamils caught between the Singhala government and Tamil Tigers. There had been many people like you among our Diaspora especially in USA and Canada who gave dozens of interviews to the Western media for the last two decades. In my life span, I have heard of speeches of the likes of Thanthai Chelva to the new generation speakers like you. With all your eloquent speeches, Tamils are suffering the fate that is worst than of caged animals in our homeland. Why are we Tamils treated like this by the international community? Why don’t they take your words seriously?

Lets ask some soul-searching questions!

Where did you and your fellow speakers go wrong?

1) Tamil nationalist speakers like you fail to take an objective view of the Sri lankan crisis! They have been continuously turning the blind eye on atrocities of Tamil Tigers thus losing credibility in the eyes international community

2) The arrogance of the Tamil nationalistic leadership is pathetic. No criticism was allowed to shape the course of Tamil militancy thus making it a Frankenstein Monster. When LTTE leadership together with likes of Emilkatnth planned to elect Mahinda by enforcing a boycott and disenfranchising poor Tamils in North, we warned through our channels at Sangam and etc Now, look what your elected Mahinda is doing for Tamils in Sri Lanka.

3) There is a difference between thermometer and thermostat. Tamil Diasphora had been like the thermometer turning a blind eye on the wrong recent policies of the Tamil Tigers. If Tamil Diaspora set the tone for Tamil Tiger leadership to shape its course to a constructive point, the fate and credibility of Tamil National struggle will be different. Tamil Diaspora needs to be the thermostat of liberation struggle.

4) As Government of Sri Lanka is on a verge of annihilating the Tamil Tiger leadership in North, Tamil nationalistic leadership in Diaspora is making a foolish bravado shows to save the Tamil tigers. The time is right for us in Tamil Diaspora to get together and form a credible movement to win the right of Tamil people in Sri Lanka. We need to sideline Tamil Tigers as any association with Tigers would reduce the credibility of our efforts. We need genuine honest leadership emerging from Tamil Diaspora to ensure that Tamils in Sri Lanka or Eelam lives peaceful ever after! The protests your fellows hold in the West holding Prabhaharan’s posters will not win you anything!

Cry for Tamils – but not for LTTE! Understand the difference and make a difference. May god bless your efforts!

First thing is you all funding and supporting to maintain a Tamil military arm (LTTE) against Sri Lanka state by destroying all democratic Tamil leaders who go against the military and terrorist campaign. Second thing is you Diaspora showing Tamil issues to world only to make money and bring advantage to LTTE. If you genuinely talk to your heart, you know that your Diaspora believed a military victory against Sri lanka state to obtain your separate state goal. But today world has recognised that LTTE as a terror arm and you all are terrorist supporters who making money and supporting under the name of innocent Tamils who are living in Sri lanka under vicious conditions in the North. You all asked world to support LTTE to win their military campaign to obtain Tamil rights but that military campaign has beaten by Sri lanka state in to the ground. So what cries still your Diaspora has to fool this world anymore? Now who is going to negotiate with Sri Lanka government? You have supported LTTE to destroy all democratic Tamil heads that can bring Tamil issues to negotiation table. Your Diaspora has destroyed Tamil culture society and all the Tamil values in Sri lanka under the name of Tamil issues. Now one thing you can do is that you can keep funding Sri Lanka to rebuild innocent Tamil life to a respectful ground.

Well Said Sir,

By birth I am a Singhalese. In my childhood of course I had many Tamil friends. We studied together, played together and eat together. That doesn't mean that there are some genuine issues faced by the Tamil population in Sri Lanka.

I don’t blame the present rulers for what is happening in our country. I always point my accusing finger at graves of our grand-fathers. This is the future that they left for us. Had they straightened these issues then birth of and armed struggle would not have occurred.

However, as you have pointed out the LTTE leadership got badly carried away. It seems that they have forgotten for what they have set out to achieve ‘equal rights for Tamil population’ of course with a unitary state of Sri Lanka. If not there were few occasions where LTTE could have won equal rights for the Tamils. But the path the LTTE adopted was too stubborn. There are two reasons why the LTTE conducted itself in such manner.
1. Over the years the LTTE had committed too many crimes and its leaders will have no future except in a State of Tamil Eelam.
2. LTTE leadership and its advisers seem to have been living in an illusionary state of mind owing to few battle field victories and they fully depended on their military strength.

Now it is time for the Tamils in Sri Lanka and the Diaspora to reject LTTE altogether and find a moderate leader who could steer your stuggle.
