The Obama Revolution taking roots in US

An example we Sri Lankans can follow to bring about racial unity in the country

By Victor Karunairajan, Associate Editor Sri Lanka Guardian

(March 17 , Toronto, Sri Lanka Guardian) A very positive and powerful movement is taking roots in the United States. The essence of democracy’s grass roots ideal and perception that the individual is sovereign is beginning to have real meanings and President Barack Obama is inspiring that into action.

There are young volunteers going from door to door throughout the United States to collect pledges that they participate in Organising United States to lift the country out of its current crisis and build a great new future in which every citizen will be a builder. There is no doubt a decisive and critical revolution is in the offing, and potentially a mighty great one that could redeem humanity from a global devastation that is threatening us.

How if we for example apply this to Sri Lanka and stir the country to the level of positive consciousness that all our people Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims, Malays and Burghers and to whoever Sri Lanka is home can work towards creating a nation of unity appreciating the strength and power of our cultural diversities?

What we need is a national integration that draws its strength especially from the spiritual values of the world’s four great religions our people practice and with which we as an island nation are blessed so abundantly.

We can make this the most powerful bonding force in the country. This is possible if we can free ourselves from the self and submit it to the selflessness for the greater good of all of us.

Let us be inspired by the Obama Revolution that is taking a powerful grip of the United States and will soon spread throughout the world for sure. If we need change and change is that we want, that change is possible if all of us are fired with that ideal.

Deep within each of us is that gentle, warm and kindly spirit of humanity that we need to nourish and cherish as a uniting force and that has no bounds. It creates a bond of immeasurable strength and joy.

Let me share with you Obama’s dream for the United States – Organizing America. Please view the presentation and share it with your friends and dear and near ones. Let our young people take it up as a challenge and bring together our people as one nation.

Organizing United States

The current debate in Washington over President Obama's budget has made one thing clear -- ensuring our long-term prosperity won't come without a fight. Partisan voices and special interests are showing real resistance to President Obama's call for making the necessary reforms and investments in energy, health care, and education. That's why we need to bring the conversation back into homes and communities across America.

Last week, thousands of you pledged your support for the President's economic plan and encouraged your friends and family to join you in a national display of support. Now I need you to take the next step. This weekend, supporters like you are organizing Pledge Project Canvasses to talk to people in their communities about this plan and mobilize support in neighborhoods across the country.

Host or attend a Pledge Project Canvass in your neighborhood this weekend.

It's absolutely crucial that Americans hear from you about this plan -- we can't leave this important debate up to a Washington establishment that doesn't welcome change. It's up to you to show Washington that Americans are demanding this new direction and won't stand on the sidelines while our country's future is at stake.

On these canvasses, you'll join fellow supporters in your community to:
• Talk with people about the President's plan
• Ask them to sign their names to the pledge
• Provide information on how to contact and urge their elected representatives to support the plan

Host or attend a canvass this weekend: (Watch)

Nothing is more powerful than having people hear from ordinary Americans about the vision President Obama has laid out for our country. Join us this weekend. Thanks, Mitch
