An unexpected crowd show up to show the solidarity to the cause and all tickets were sold out within two days.

Most eye catching event was Ms. Melani Miguel from Toronto Tamil community stood up and sang the Sri Lankan national anthem in Tamil at the opening. Toronto Consul General Mr. Bandula Jayasekara, Chief incumbent of Toronto Maha Vihara Rev. Ahangama Ratnasiri and a representative from Sampath Bank addressed the gathering.

Sinhala Tamil new years celebration is a 30 years tradition in Toronto organized by “Canada Sri Lanka Association” but this year CSLA cancelled the event due to LTTE threats. But at the last minute a group of Sri Lankans stood up to the occasion and held the event in one of Toronto’s prestigious places; Toronto Science Centre. “We still don’t have a name to identify this organization but we did it well” Asoka Perera one of the organizers told Sri Lanka Guardian.
