Leaders in the past erred - Minister Dullas

(June 01,Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Leaders in the past erred when they declared Sinhala as the state language, said Dullas Alahapperuma, Minister of Transport yesterday.

“Former prime minister S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike, who founded the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), caused heartache and let down the community that speaks the Tamil language by declaring Sinhala as the official language,” he said opening the main tyre production company under the Sri Lanka Transport Board.

He observed that the importance of English had been underestimated by Bandaranaike, as the Sri Lankan community had been deprived of the opportunity to enter the international arena.
