Time to put a price tag on Prabhakaran's head

By Malin Abeyatunga

(May 03, Melbourne, Sri Lanka Guardian) Prabhakaran is a wanted criminal by Interpol. Prabhakaran and Pottu Amman are wanted by India for the assassination of their son of soil Rajiv Gandhi. Prabhakran has been sentenced to 200 years for his involvement in Central Bank bombing. In addition to the above, Prabhakran is accountable for the deaths of President Premadasa, Ministers Lakshman Kadirgamar, Fernadopulle, Dassanayake, Gamini Dissanayake, HV Gunaratna, Lalith Athulathmudali, Ranjan Wijeratna to name a few. Prabhakaran is behind the killing of Alfred Duraiappah, Rajini Thiranagama, Jaffna Mayor, Sam Thambimuttu, Amirthalingam,Dr. Neelan Thiruchelvam, Kethisweran Loganathan.

Prabhakaran is responsible for exterminating all opposing Tamil politicians. Prabhakaran is accountable for all ethnic cleansing of Sinhalese and Muslims from their villages. Prabhakaran is accountable for the bombing of Buddhist most sacred place Dalada Maligawa, killing hundred of Buddhist devotees at Sri Maha Boodhiya., killing over hundred Muslim prayers in a mosque in Kattankuddy. He is responsible of the massacre of 39 Buddhist monks in Aranthalawe. Prabhakaran has blood in his hands of ordering the killing of 649 policemen who surrendered to LTTE at the request of then President Premadasa. Prabhakaran is accountable for numerous bombs and suicide attacks on public places like Katunayake air port, public trains, buses, shopping malls killing hundreds of civilians. The killing list of Prabhakaran is exhaustive and this is just a few of his killings off the war zone. He is not an ordinary killer but a sadistic killer. Now this maniac killer is hiding behind the innocent Tamil civilians to save his life. He should be captured dead or alive before he makes his last bid to escape. USA offered a couple of million dollars for the head of Sadam Hussein and succeeded and most probably a tip of his hide out would have come from inside for the allied forces to capture him alive.

It is our turn now and the western world cannot morally be critical about it. The Sri Lankan Government should offer a couple of million rupees for the head of Prabhakaran. Who knows that a tip will come from their own cadre (Daya and George masters spilling some beans now) or even from a civilian. A public announcement that so much of millions of rupees will be offered for the head of Prabhakaran will bring emotional pressure to Prabhakaran and he will suspect every one around him. Under pressure, he may even bite the cyanide capsule. We should get him before he makes an attempt to escape and such a cash offer might help armed forces its job much easier and quicker. That will also save a few of our experienced commandos precious lives whilst trying to capture him dead or alive and also couple of millions of rupees in the war operation.

The writer is quite correct in his line of thinking after all the atrocities committed by LTTE in the hands of Prbhakaran. But yet, we have to come to some honourable settlement, for what ever these our own people. I do not like to treat Tamils as different just because some of them have behaved this way. We have to jointly come to an understanding to end this disaster and work together for a prosperous Sri Lanka. One was suggesting that Sri Lanka now could enter negotiations from a point of strength. I do not agree with that. Point of strength or not we have to enter rightful negotiations, and if there are any legitimate concerns Tamils have we should address them. The common problems we have as un-employment, health care, education, social justice should be treated as common problems for both Sinhalese and Tamil. But if there is anything specific to Tamil people because they are Tamil, we have to address such concerns positively.
