Govt to set up DECs in North and East

(June 23, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Government has taken steps to set up four Dedicated Economic Centers (DECs) in Batticaloa, Kilinochchi, Medawachchiya and Jaffna within this year to provide essential commodities to the people in the North and the East at concessionary rates.

“We have planned to open four DECs shortly under the Uthuru Vasanthaya to provide relieves to both consumers as well as farmers”, said Mr. Bandula Gunawardena, Minister of Trade, Marketing Development, Cooperatives and Consumer Services.

These four Dedicated Economic Centers will facilitate to uplift the living standards of Northern and Eastern farmers by resolving their marketing problems.
