Dengue control

By Andare

(July 06, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Learned doctors have published their views on this matter. I, as a comedian, have nothing to add to their opinions. However, as a fool I allow my mind to wonder about these problems and I have come across some thoughts about solving this problem. Following the good traditions of our country, the first thing to begin with in solving a problem is to have a proper slogan. So I suggest that the slogan for this particular issue should be "Maduruwata thitha".

This word 'thitha' is very powerful and it can stop anything. Thitha is the expression of the greatest determinations of 'hitha'. Now, the next issue is as to how to popularize this slogan. Recent experience in the country shows that putting large cut-outs in the city and in the main roads is the best way to influence the hitha. Literally tens of thousands of such cut-outs are propped up on the sides of roads.

Since these big posters carry the images of politicians, we can presume that in their benevolence they would allow these prop ups to be used for some time to carry a huge picture of the mosquito with equally big image of the slogan in suitable colours. Perhaps red, being the colour indicating danger, "maduruwata thitha" can be the colour of the writing. This way, the whole nation will begin to think with one hitha to rid themselves of this great menace in the shortest possible time. With an effective slogan and many big posters exhibited everywhere, we could solve any problem.
