(July 23, London, Sri Lanka Guardian) At the time of filing this report, sources close to Vinayagamoorthi Muralitharan, the National Integration Minister and the former Tamil Tiger military commander also known as Col. Karuna confirmed, due to Karuna’s persona non grata status within the EU countries, he will only travel to Switzerland to contact a spectrum of the Tamil Diaspora leaders.
Whilst in Switzerland he is planning to contact the Diaspora Tamil leaders in Europe to come and meet him with the view to promote the government plans to deal with the Tamil issue. Sources said he is also planning to canvass for Diaspora Tamils to join the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) of which he is one of the Vice President.
Depending on the reception received in Switzerland, Karuna is expected to travel to Norway and Sweden to meet some of his LTTE contacts there. Sources said that he is eager to meet his LTTE friend Nediyavan in Oslo to bring him under his wings. Nediyavan was next in command to LTTE’s former International Head Castro and he is said to be one of the secondary level leaders of the LTTE who had escaped to Norway two months prior to the final assault of the Sri Lanka forces against the LTTE.
It is also expected that Karuna will attempt to make amends with his angry wife Vidyavathy and sources said his girl friend and personal secretary at his Ministry will not be accompanying him to Geneva.
