(August 15, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Not even less than one week for Mr. Dayan Jayathilleka, a Permanent Representative of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the United Nations at Geneva and other International Organizations,(he is also the Consul General of Sri Lanka in Switzerland) to be say good bye to his posts in Geneva, the Government is contemplating on appointing him as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Cuba, reliable diplomatic sources told the Sri Lanka Guardian in anonymity. His present services were terminated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a special fax message in last month, without explaining the reason. But political sources said, the reason was behind his termination is due to personal problems which they have within the Ministry and his political view over Sri Lanka‘s problem and issues in Palestine.

However as Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations at Geneva, former senior lecture of Political Science in University of Colombo, Mr. Jayathilleka’s contribution has been record breaking.

He has voiced for minorities to make the best image of Sri Lanka among International community while accepting minorities rights and advocating power devolution to the ethnic crisis in Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile speaking to Sri Lanka Guardian Mr. Jayathillake says, “while it would be an honour since I have great respect for Cuba, such an offer should be ruled out because Sri Lanka's current Ambassador to Cuba, Ms Tamara Kunanayakam, is a well educated and knowledgeable, Spanish speaking diplomat who is an excellent Presidential choice for that post in which she has worked extremely hard to further strengthen Sri Lanka-Cuba ties.”

However," no offer of ambassadorship to Cuba or any other country for that matter, has been made to me officially or unofficially. I have had no communication whatsoever from GOSL after the fax of July 17th which instructed me that I should relinquish my post by August 20th," he futher said.
