5 Rajapakse Family members as District Leaders for next Gen. Election

(September 25, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) “According to sources within the SLFP, five members of the family of Mahinda Rajapakse will be contesting as district leaders at the next Gen. Election”, the Lankaenews reports.

According to the report carried by the Web site, “President’s elder brother Chamala Rajapakse as Ratnapura District leader, younger brother Basil Rajapakse as Gampaha District leader, Gotabaya Rajapakse as Kurunegala leader, Uva PC Chief Minister Sashindra Rajapakse as Moneragala District leader and Mahinda Rajapakse‘s elder son, Naomal Rajapakse as Hambantota District leader.”

“Meanwhile there are also many other close relatives of the Rajapakse family who are not already Parliament members are also earmarked to contest the elections, it is reported.”

“However, it is the view of senior party members that these profound changes in the party nomination list can create a bigger crisis and commotion than was witnessed at the Southern PC elections in the conflict between Anarkali and Muthuhettigama.”
