Post-war in Sri Lanka: Peace and reconciliation- a way forward

(October 16, London, Sri Lanka Guardian) United Kingdom based Alliance for Peace & Reconciliation in Sri Lanka (APRSL) have organized a parliamentary meeting on the theme of ‘Post-war Sri Lanka: Peace and Reconciliation – a way forward’ to be held on 19 October 2009. The meeting will held in the House of Commons.

The meeting was originally scheduled to be held in the Portcullis House where parliamentarian’s offices are based and it has now been moved to a Committee Room in the House of Commons. The organizers said the meeting will be addressed by the British parliamentarians and other speakers. Andy Love MP will be chairing the meeting.

According to the Vice Chairman of APRSL M Marzook, speakers will include Des Brown MP, Siobhian McDonough MP, Andrew Dismore MP Barry Gardiner MP and few others. The other speakers are Councillor Paul Sathianesan, Farah Mihlar of Minority Rights Group, Reza Yehya, Director Research - Serendip Institute of Research and Development (SIRD of Sri Lanka) and Roy Chaudhury who will speak on ‘Indian perspective of the conflict in Sri Lanka’.

According to the organisers, they are overwhelmed by the interests shown by the public following the publicity and they have already achieved the capacity crowd for the meeting. R Jayadevan, the General Secretary of the APRSL said, ‘due to limited number of seats available, those who did not register their names should not turn up’ and that ‘they will not be admitted’. He further said, ‘those who wish to attend, still can register their names and they will be accommodated only if any cancellations take place’.
