"Govt.’ villainy against a war hero par excellence"

(November 24, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Addressing a media briefing at the UNP media unit yesterday (23) , the UNP parliamentarian Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena asked the Government to explain why the IGP and the Forces chiefs did not attend the Farewell ceremony of a celebrated war Hero, former Chief of defense staff General Sarath Fonseka who spearheaded the liberation of the country from 30 years of LTTE terrorism . If the Govt. has not been behind this , it is the duty of the Govt. to inquire as to why they did not attend a ceremony accorded to such an important individual who played the key role in the war victory.

Let alone inquiring and showing the General the due respect and gratitude , the Govt. has started persecuting this war hero . At every turn he is being harassed. He was asked to quit his official residence at Army Headquarters within a day ,and his official residence at Colombo 07 ,within a week. Earlier, even his speeches at various official functions were blacked out , the media was obstructed from reporting them. The Govt. even went so far as to call him a traitor . Do you know the crime he has committed, for the Govt. to hound him out and ill treat him ? he asked . The crime he has committed is his giving the indication that he is going to contest the next Presidential elections . The President and his Govt. have become so scared of defeat if he contests , are viciously maligning him. Fortunately the entire country , the people and the religious prelates are with General Fonseka .They have protested against the Govt.’s attitude towards him. The Govt. has at last been forced to relent and extended his stay for Gen. Fonseka in his official residence for a further period. The Govt. yielded to this only under pressure from all quarters.

The Health sector , a vital arm of the Govt. which is headed by a Minister who is a also the WHO President has lost his head and all , so much so that patients in Hospitals who go for treatment to save themselves are more in the dying list than in the saved list. Outdated drugs are imported ; injection vials are containing glass pieces , rubber bands and other impurities, while the Saline bottles are containing muddy water . his is the state of affairs in the Health sector. This Minister is fast heading to create another record as the Minister who inflicted the most miseries and mishaps in the public health sector . It is after him all the unknown disease and known diseases are raging in the country . Swine flu fever never known before is now spreading in SL. Dengue had risen to alarming proportions. There are outbreaks of all kinds of epidemics . But, what has this Minister done to remedy the situation ? sweet nothing . Has sloth an intimate and integral part of obesity overtaken him , ? he asked.
