“The Truth” of the Armored Coup against the Rajapakshas!

(February 05, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The media in Colombo has reports the “Inside Story” of the so called “Military Coup against the Government”, which is in the front lines of state newspapers these days. The true story is being slowly but steadily revealed through various informants within the military establishment itself.

The Security Council for a considerable period of time has been assessing the situation in a defeat at the Presidential Elections. The modus operandi to keep power within Rajapakses has been discussed at all these meetings and the final meeting of the Security Council had taken place in the evening on 24th January 2010 just two days prior to the election.

During this meeting it has been decided to call five battalions of the Special Forces, which was at that time stationed in the North, to Colombo. To command these five battalions, the Council has picked Lieutenant Colonel Harendra Wanasinghe, who is incidentally the son of the former Army Commander Hamilton Wanasinghe. Hamilton Wanasinghe stepped on to the political platform of General Sarath Fonseka at his Nittambuwa Rally and the insiders in Army reveals that this too has been part of this dastardly coup plotted by the Rajapakse regime.

It was decided to bring the Special Forces to Colombo due to the excellent combat capabilities that these forces are famous for. In addition to the Special Forces, it has been decided to use Gajaba Regiment and Armoured Corps for the planned operation. The Special Forces batallions, which were brought down to the South have been placed in Seeduwa, Kuruwita, Embilipitiya, Panadura and Race Course in Colombo not to rouse any suspicions of anyone. Major General Kamal Gunaratne has been appointed as the overall commander of this special task force.

Air Force and Navy too have been kept on full alert to face any eventuality. This entire operation has been planned in Colombo to establish a Military Regime under the Commander of the Army, in the event the President fails to make a victory in the elections going against the will of the people of Sri Lanka. If the Sinha Regiment and Commando Units of the Army joined hands with the people’s power, it was decided to use the Special Forces to fight these two regiments and retain power even after a bloodbath in the capital city.

Once the senior officers within the Army and also some of the retired officers got to know of this dastardly act, they have appealed to Lieutenant Colonel Harendra Wanasinghe not to get involved in such a coup, but Wanasinghe has told them that he has no other option than obliging the orders of the Commander of the Army and Secretary of Defence.

Most of the officers and retired officers, who are now in custody for aiding and abetting a so called Conspiracy against the Government, are the people who have known this plot from the inception and protested the said operation. This is the only reason for them to be taken into custody and the Government has found no evidence whatsoever to substantiate any evidence of a plotted coup against the regime by these officers and civilians.

It is also reported that the Sinha Regiment of the army is to be disbanded soon and this is the first time in the history of 60 years of the Sri Lanka Army, such a division within the rank and file has been created and the credit for this division is equally distributed between the Commander of the Army, Jagath Jayasuriya and the Secretary of Defence, Gotabhaya Rajapakse.
