Cocks, Bulls, the PRA the Island and Angulimala’s theories

By Our Political Editor

(May 13, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The IGP continues to remain silent about the disappearance of Prageeth Ekeneliagoda almost four months after the incident. The Police spokesperson claims that police investigations have found no information. The new Minister for Media also says that government has not yet found any information. He goes on to say that there are many cases like that around the world.

However, a former associate of the notorious PRA, the underground organisation with a reputation for abductions and murder, C.A. Chandraprema, now writing gossip for the Island news paper, says he has a “theory” that explains the disappearance. Obviously he has not tried to convince the IGP or the Minister for Media with his story. Only the owners of the Island newspaper seem to believe him. That is the kind of “newspaper” it has become. It is not a newspaper but “A theory” paper.

If this news paper has any respect for facts, it should get Chandraprema to write about the PRA. That is a subject he knows. In fact it is part of his own biography. People have not been told details of the adventures of this secret organisation and its activities. Why doesn't the Island get Chandraprema to write about what he knows? Many a mystery will be solved if people such as him talk.

To hide what one knows and make up fairy tales under the guise of “theories” is not journalism. It is certainly is not investigative journalism. Of course the mind of a criminal is a fertile ground where many “theories” grow. To deceive innocent wives as to how there are blood marks on the clothes and to deceive the children as to the where money to feed them come from many “theories” have to be constructed.

Chandraprema refers to Prageeth’s knowledge about the use of chemical weapons and disposal of bodies of disappeared persons in the sea as mentioned in Sandaruwan Senadeera’s response. He says that he questioned the persons referred to in the article who replied that they never said anything like that. What a discovery and surprise. In Sri Lanka, who is the person who will say in the open they know anything about such matters. Who wants to be the next person to disappear?

This Chandraprema before he started his Angulimala style life via the PRA was a member of the Student Christian Movement (SCM). During that time, he would have heard about a man called, St. Peter, who was told by Jesus Christ that before cock crows in the morning, he would deny Jesus thrice and, in fact, Peter did this. Such is the nature of fear. And that’s what Sri Lanka has in plenty, thanks to the PRA and similar sinister murderous cliques and their work.

Yes, people pretend not to know. And they pretend even to believe the “Theories” and fairy tales. Some will even say, tell us to keep on waiting until Prageeth Ekeneligoda comes out from where he is hiding. In this paradise there are places to hide even at the bottom of the sea.

The editorial board and the owners of the Island are doing a great service by replacing journalism with publication of fairy tales.
