(September 04, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Former Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake has said after the SLFP anniversary convention held recently that President Mahinda Rajapaksa is a mental patient who has swollen head due to his hunger for power and that no one could stop his greed for power.

A senior SLFP member told us that the former Prime Minister had made this comment during the friendly gathering organized after the convention. He had said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa was hungry for power than any other leader the country had seen and that he had not raised his hands to approve the constitutional amendments at the convention as a result.

Meanwhile, many who attended the convention criticized the move not to invite former President Chandrika Kumaratunge for the convention and to not place her photograph at the venue.

However, the President when presenting the proposal to extend the number of terms an individual could hold office as an Executive President said he had brought it to enable any one who has held the post twice to contest again for the post without becoming lunatics.

The constitutional amendments are to be taken up before parliament on Wednesday (8).
