(June 13, New York,Sri Lanka Guardian) The Prime Minister of the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) Visuvanathan Rudrakumaran today thanked and congratulated the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Honorable Selvi Jeyalalitha for passing a historic resolution urging the Government of India to take steps at the UN to announce those committed massive abuses against Eelam Tamils as war criminals and to impose economic sanctions on Sri Lanka until Tamils enjoy equal rights.

"On behalf of Eelam Tamils, we thank and congratulate the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Honorable Selvi Jeyalalitha for her exemplary leadership in presenting this resolution and rallying the members of other parties to unanimously pass this resolution," said the Prime Minister. "We express our heartfelt appreciation to all the parties represented in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly and to the people of Tamil Nadu," he continued.

"Passing this resolution in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly is of historical significance. It not only underlines the intimate relationship of the Tamils of Eelam and those of Tamil Nadu, but also recognizes the fact that Tamils of Eelam have been subjugated to structural genocide by the Sri Lankan Government," said the Prime Minister.

"Sri Lanka is effectively using the China card to ward off Indian pressure and the harsh reality is that the genocide of Tamils cannot be stopped without external pressure, said the Prime Minister. It is precisely for this reason that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu deserves our praise for her foresight and clear understanding of the situation in Sri Lanka and that the Sri Lankan Government could not be persuaded through reason but only by punitive action," he continued.

"We are confident that the Chief Minister will continue her efforts to ensure the implementation of this resolution and TGTE will take steps to initiate similar actions in other countries," said the Prime Minister.

Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) is a democratically elected government of Tamil diaspora. TGTE held elections in twelve countries to elect Members of Parliament (MPs). These MPs drafted and ratified a Constitution, elected a Prime Minister, Speaker and a ten member Cabinet.
