Divi Neguma Bill passed with two third majority

( January 8, 2012, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The controversial Divi Neguma Bill was passed   in Parliament a short while ago with 160 voting for and 53 against it.
The UNP, the TNA and the JVP voted against the Bill.
Several amendments were introduced to the Bill in keeping with the Supreme Court’s  ruling on the constitutionality of the Bill.
Several hundred supporters of the Bill gathered near the Parliament   roundabout this afternoon calling for its speedy enactment.
The Samurdhi Authority, the Southern Development Authority and the Udarata Development Authority will be amalgamated to form the Department of Devineguma Development, under the provisions of this Bill.
