Sri Lanka: President Stops Former President’s US Tour

( April 12, 2014, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike's US tours has been cancelled due to the manipulation of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, reports say.

The incident is as follows.

The 2014 spring meetings of the World Bank and IMF took place from 7 to 11 April in Washington, DC.

A special event of the 'Club de Madrid’, of former heads of states, was also organized parallel to the meeting.

The former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga was invited to make a special speech at the event which was mainly addressing the IMF's and World Bank's duty towards the development of the unstable and weak states.

It is said that as soon as President Mahinda Rajapaksa was made aware of the matter he has ordered the Secretary of Ministry of Finance, P.B Jayasundara to take measures to stop the particular tour.

Accordingly, P.B Jayasundra has pled with the IMF to cancel the former President's speech and tour.

After taking P.B Jayasundra's facts and promises into consideration the event organizers have cancelled the former President's Washington tour and sent her a message expressing their regret.
