Karunanidhi’s Politics on the way out- Jayalalitha

(February 13, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) Galvanizing her cadres for the 2009 Parliamentary elections, AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday claimed that her party had a very bright future and said that it would rule the entire nation and not only Tamilnadu.

AIADMK chief, who addressed the party general and executive council meets, also formalised significant changes in the affiliate organsiations of the party.

‘It is an accident that the DMK has come to rule the State,’ Jayalalithaa said and alleged that the poeople of the State were dejected with the government.

She also said that the government was waiting to go. She also said that among all the parties of Tamilnadu theirs had the opportunity to sweep power.

‘We are poised to reap greater success than ever before and a great victory is waiting to come our way,’ the former Chief Minister said and added that the ruling party would disintegrate to pieces soon.

Touching upon the MGR legacy issue, she said that the AIADMK was the only party to inherit it. ‘AIADMK alone could spread the fame of MGR besides serving the people,’ she said.

The AIADMK chief also said that she came to politics at the invitation of MGR, and with a touch of emotion, added that the late leader of the masses had taken a promise from her that she should work for the party. ‘You must work for the party and it shall be your source of support and comfort,’ Jayalalithaa claimed as told by MGR.

Referring to the statement of DMK president and Chief Mininster on the need to cut down pomp and show, she said it was too late as all in his family are deeply attached to it.

Saying that she was never interested in display of grandeur, Jayalalithaa asked the functionaries to observe her 60th (which falls on 24 February) birthday as one dedicated to the welfare of the people.

Earlier several resolutions were passed. Significantly and as expected, the general and executive councils authorised the general secretary to take appropriate decisions on the question of forging alliance with parties.

The State government was urged to expedite works for Cable TV Corporation and it was also slammed for allegedly being a ‘breeding ground for violence’ in seperate resolutions.

An upper ceiling in age has been introduced to give youngsters a special focus in the party.
