‘Indian Cong MPs against Sethu project’

(March 17, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy yesterday (Sunday) declared the Sethusamudram Ship Channel Project (SSCP) had suffered a lethal blow.

The Muslim MPs of the Congress Party had expressed reservations over the channel project across the Palk Straits.

Speaking to newsmen, he said the Congress leaders like Ahmed Patel and Mohsina Kidwai have voiced concern to their top leadership that the demolishing of the Ram Sethu (Adam’s bridge) would ‘empower the Hindutva brigade’ and justify their proposed demolition of mosques in name of economic development.

On the response to his letter regarding the alleged phone tapping of political parties, he said that the government has said no such orders to tap phone lines were issued by the concerned authority.

But the government was yet has to clarify whether the tapping was done without its consent, Swamy claimed. He also charged that the government officials had forced mobile phone operator Airtel to tap his personal line.

On Mullaiperiyar dam issue, Swamy called for the immediate increase of water level to 142 feet as the court orders were not against such a move.

What stopped the Tamilnadu government in demanding the increase in water level in the dam was the ‘Chief Minister’s truck with the landlords in Kerala’ who would be affected with the increase in the dam height, Swamy alleged.
